I’m so excited

It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to join the RWA. When I first published my novel, I was excited to learn there was even a gay romance chapter! I have butterfies right now as I type that I printed out the application for RWA.

I can’t send it in until I get paid next month, but I had to print it out. I’m too damn excited. Yes, I’m a little sad and pathetic =D. I know I’ll cry when I send in my application to the Rainbow Romance Writers too.

It’s such an amazing moment and so exciting. Thank you so much RWA for stating your position on discrimination:

4. The Board approved adding anti-discrimination language to the Policies and Procedures Manual as follows: Membership shall not be denied to adults because of race, color, gender, age, religion, national origin, marital status, sexual preference, disability, or political affiliation.
5. The Board urges our chapters to make every effort to ensure that their contests and other services are inclusive. While RWA chapters are affiliated as individual corporations, and RWA Staff and Board are not involved in overseeing chapter contests and other programs, both Staff and Board are available to support and advise chapters on best practices.

This is a start. And while the term sexual “preference” isn’t ideal, I think their heart is the the right place and let’s hope they’ll fix the inappropriate use of that word.

But, for now, I’m too excited to join to care. =D! \o/

I am excited to see your excitement!! Go Dani! You deserve all these milestones because your book was just soooooo good!!

    • I don’t know how I missed this comment in my list, but I’m so sorry I didn’t respond! Thank you so much! Milestone is such an appropriate word. It feels like one when someone says what you have about my book =). o/

  • Woohoo! Milestones are great. Anti-discrimination policies are awesome too. 10+ years ago I worked for corporate giant, Bank of America, in San Francisco. Corporate culture sucks but BofA ALWAYS had a large contingent walking in the Gay Pride Parade every year. That was a great time of year, to look out the window and see the rainbow and leather-pride flags fluttering along Market Street. The San Francisco offices were a wonderful, concentrated melting pot and a significant number of my friends and co-workers were GLBT and the fact that they accepted this geeky hetero Brit-transplant was pretty darn neat. 🙂

    • I worked for Wells Fargo and I can remember there being a whisper with friends and such about BoA needing competition in the banking representation. But I already was marching in a different contingency for Pride that year. But it was always cool to see the various businesses who took part.

=D And yeah, BoA always had reputation for being very gay friendly, which is pretty cool. (Btw, all us Americans like Brits. Don’t you know? We find your accents super sexy!)
